“PETA” is the abbreviation for “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.”

PETA is the world's largest animal rights organisation that, together with many partners like V.GAN, is dedicated to "helping every animal live a better life". PETA works globally to expose animal cruelty, educate the public and end speciesism. PETA defines speciesism as a "discriminatory pattern of thought and behaviour that justifies the exploitation or exclusion of living beings on the basis of their species membership". In short, PETA fights for the rights and equality of all animals, against exploitation, torture and abuse through various actions.

In addition to the actions and demonstrations that regularly make the news, PETA also works on a political level. They want to establish animal rights more deeply by talking to politicians, encourage discourse in conferences, support research into alternatives to animal testing, and at the same time offer advice to companies that want to set up an animal-free business. In addition, a separate legal department takes action against animal abusers. If you would like to learn more about PETA's milestones and achievements, please visit their website.

For these reasons, PETA is the natural certification partner for V.GAN in our efforts to offer high quality vegan lifestyle products. Please read more about our story here.

In addition to various cooperation opportunities, PETA offers various certifications. V.GAN brand has earned two different PETA certifications.

Fashion labels that are animal-friendly can be certified as "PETA-Approved Vegan" as is the case with our V.GAN FOOTWEAR line.

In the personal care, beauty, and household chemicals world, there is the "PETA Approved Vegan Global Animal Test Policy", which is awarded to companies like V.GAN in our “CARE” and “BEAUTY” lines that, after thorough testing, demonstrably manufacture their products vegan and animal-free from the raw material to the bottle.

For certification, a company must submit evidence that neither the manufacturer and suppliers, nor the company itself, have animal testing carried out - and not just for the final product, but for every single raw material that is used. In addition, a statement must be signed, the "Global Animal Test-Free and Vegan Statement of Assurance", in which the company not only declares that it does not test on animals, but also that it does not contain any animal ingredients in its products.

V.GAN CARE and BEAUTY lines make the following attestations:

  • All V.GAN branded CARE and BEAUTY line products are vegan.

    • No “V.GAN” brand products of any kind in any category contain any animal-derived ingredients and are not tested on animals.

    • We are a freely stand-alone company registered in the United Kingdom with no parent company.

    • The V.GAN PETA declaration specifically states that: V.GAN Ltd and the V.GAN trademarked brand does not and shall not conduct, commission, or pay for animal testing of any products, nor will it conduct, commission, or pay for animal testing of ingredients used in, or formulations of, such products. The company shall ensure that suppliers of ingredients for its products do not conduct, commission, or pay for tests on any ingredients used by the company. V.GAN requires that each of the manufacturers of any finished product that it sells or distributes does not and shall not conduct, commission or pay for animal testing of any products, including, without limitation, formulations and ingredients of such products. The company shall not pay for or allow animal testing of any products, including, without limitation, formulations and ingredients of such products, by or at the direction of regulatory agencies in foreign countries.”

    • As used in this statement of assurance, “animal testing” means all testing of finished products or any one or more ingredients or formulations used in the manufacturing or production of such products, in which whole nonhuman animals are the test subjects, including, without limitation, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and nonhuman mammals. Animal testing excludes in vitro tests or tests conducted completely with human volunteers.
